Our Process

Revisiting and Reimagining

The Library Trustees and Director worked closely with the Town throughout this initial design process and in selecting an appropriate architect.

Engagement

The architectural firm of Raymond Guertin was engaged to take the ideas presented by Lavallee during 2020 and expand upon them. Guertin’s firm has experience handling library renovations, especially historic buildings.

Our Project Mission

The overall goal of this project is to address longstanding problems facing the library – from sewer to accessibility issues – while simultaneously updating and modernizing the communal spaces of the building without adding to the overall footprint. The project consists of the following:

Updating the sewer systems and library envelope below the ground to address issues of water infiltration into the building’s lower level.

Creating a new vestibule front entrance with updated windows.

Updating the ramp and patio area to accommodate more patron use and to address accessibility issues into the building.

Adding a new Children's Room entrance for safety and additional options for patron entry/exit.

Our Milestones and Timeline

Horizontal Timeline

2021

LaVallee Proposal

After an assessment of the Library, LaVallee present their findings and recommendations based on feedback from the Library and the Town with various priorities and phases.
Late 2022

Revisiting and Re-imagining

With the hiring of the new Library Director, the Library and the Trustees embarked on revisiting the ideas presented from LaVallee and how the project should proceed.
Early 2023

Moving Forward

With the recommendation of the Town, the Trustees engaged the architectural firm of Raymond T. Guertin to explore new options for the Library’s entrances.
Mid 2023

Funding Secured

Using Raymond T. Guertin, Architect’s proposal, the Library Director submitted a Capital Improvement Request to put the project on the Town’s timeline for funding. At the 2023 Annual Town Meeting, the Body voted to approve the disbursement of funds to begin work on the project.
2024

Preparation

The Director, Trustees, and Town worked together to create the RFP for the required design bidding process. Prior to its completion, the scope and designs for the project were further discussed and defined.
Early 2025

Design Bidding Process

With the completion of the RFP, the Town submitted our proposal for bids. After reviewing all applicants, Raymond T. Guertin, Architect was selected to produce construction documents.
Current Step

Historic Approval

We received conditional approval from Historic on 4/7/2025 to advance the project to construction documents.
Mid/Late 2025

Work Scheduled to Begin

After construction documents are secured, those plans will be submitted for an IFB process where a general contractor will be selected to execute the plans.
