Library Receives Grant to Launch English Conversation Circle

We’re thrilled to share some exciting news: the Swampscott Public Library has been awarded a $1,000 grant to launch a new English Language Learners (ELL) Conversation Circle!

This grant will allow us to create a welcoming, supportive space where community members who are learning English can come together to practice language skills, build confidence, and connect with neighbors. Whether someone is just beginning to learn English or looking to improve their fluency, the Conversation Circle will provide a relaxed environment to speak, listen, and learn through informal, guided conversation.

Swampscott is home to a growing number of multilingual residents, and we believe the library should be a place where everyone feels included and empowered. This program is one more way we’re working to meet the evolving needs of our community and help bridge connections between people of all backgrounds.

The grant funds will help us purchase learning materials, refreshments, and other supplies to support the program as it gets off the ground. We’re also exploring opportunities to collaborate with local volunteers, educators, and cultural organizations to make the Conversation Circle as welcoming and effective as possible.

We’ll be sharing more details soon, including the official launch date and how to get involved—whether as a participant or a volunteer facilitator. If you or someone you know would benefit from a space to practice English in a friendly and informal setting, we’d love to have you join us.

We can’t wait to get started!
