Circe

If you are a fan of Greek Mythology, sweeping stories told in lush, descriptive language, and great character arcs then this is the book for you. While this review is perhaps a few years late, for anyone who was hesitant to read this book due to all of the hype during its release, let me dissuade your fears and say that I wish I’d read it sooner.

Circe follows the tale of an unloved and discarded daughter of the great Titan, Helios. Used as a pawn in an ongoing power struggle between Titans and Olympians, Circe is cursed to live in isolation forever. Though seen as a punishment by those in power, Circe thrives in a world of her own making: perfecting her witchcraft and spells, entertaining sailors and gods, and even having a child of her own. What starts as a study of Greek Mythology and the inner workings of gods and monsters, becomes a delicate, internal rumination on the tolls of isolation and the burden of purpose.

Do yourself a favor and check out this wonderfully written tale – you won’t be disappointed.
