Weirdness has followed 17 year old Iris Hollow since a childhood incident left her and her sisters with scars on their throats and no prior memories. All her attempts to stick to a normal life go out the window when her oldest sister, Grey, goes missing. As Iris and Viv try to unravel the mystery that led to their sister’s disapperance, they quickly realize that the only way to solve the problems of the present is to dive into the their strange and dark past.

This is one of my favorite books–top 5 for sure. A dark fantasy that invokes fairytale imagery in it’s horror elements, House of Hollow is a masterclass in combining the ethereal with the grotesque–beauty with rot. This is a fast-paced, addictive read that will lead you down so many twists and turns you won’t ever know where it’s going. This book has some wonderfully complex themes of monstrosity, family, and morality. The writing is rich and descriptive. And the characters are distinct and fun to follow. Overall an extremely well-written, unique book that will appeal to those that enjoy dark fantasy/fairytales, mysteries, and familial relationships.
